My computer died a sad early death, dammit HP. Thus why no recent posting. Hopefully I am up and running soon enough, this post is being brought to you via my IPAD which while fun - hello Garage Band and portable magazines - is still pretty much a toy computer.

French Vogue - February 2011

I spent my afternoon sipping tea in a cafe taking advantage of their free wi-fi to download Ipad apps and flipping through and photographing pictures from French Vogue. I am not paying 15.99. I am cheap like that.

The image on the left reminds me of how I am tending to dress lately. Like a bohemian boy. I like it.

This image and the ones that follow are part of an epic editorial I cannot begin to describe. By epic I am referringto the true maning of the word. The editorial is literally 50 pages long and quite comprehensive and beautiful.

I am wanting these white onesie jumper things above. If I get one like them, i promise to wear at home only.

And finally, Man Candy. Colin Firth is certainly an attractive man. Thanks Mr. Darcy.

New York Trip - Part 1

These are my trusty combat boots. I wore them on my trip to New York last week and they sure came in handy. If I lived there, I would stay in them permanently in winter, no matter what else I was wearing. Snow, Ice, Water, Slush - no problem. We made tracks.

This is me on the first day of the ENK show. I wanted to model our jewelry and brought black dresses but decided that black would just be boring and any old jewelry can show up against a black background but with a wild print like this, if your pieces stand out then you have something there. The gamble paid off. The first day was a huge success. I felt like a popular girl at fashion camp. We had a crowd all day and I didn't have time to sit down at .

This dress is made in England from the 1970's. I am wearing it with a cashmere headpiece I made myself. Unfortunately I lost it on my last day, bummer. I am hoping to recreate it. It's really different and really cool. The belt is this great obi leather wrap belt I bought from the Gap about 12 years ago. It is my favorite belt out of my huge belt collection.

You can't see the jewelry well in this picture. I will post some pictures of it soon. It is really beautiful and I am so proud of being a part of creating it.

This is me on the second day. I think the sour look is because i was up at 7 am New York time.
4 am at home. It was rough but I trooped through. This is one of my favorite dresses I own. It's a 1960's mini dress with sheer silk sleeves. An incredibly mod piece. I am wearing the locket that was shown in this month's issue of Vogue. It is pretty exciting. I helped with the color choices for that collection and Swarovski and Vogue picked the piece along with a matching cuff, for an advertorial right in the middle of the magazine, page 47. We got really lucky. Free advertising is always nice.

I was so tired by day three , okay actually hungover from partying the night before, i didn't bother photographing my outfit that day. I wore a woven black raffia dress from the 1950's with a bow front. A really classic style.

In cool fashion moments, Iris Apfel was there and walked by. She was wearing an indian blanket sweater and looked fantastic.

I will post more pictures from my trip including my accidental shopping that occurred on my last day there. My mantra needs to be - No more clothes, but when in New York.....

We made it, another year. I am happy to say that, regardless of the weirdness surrounding us, everyone I have spoken to is optimistic about what 2011 has in store for us all.

This year instead of making New Year's resolutions that would require me to complete an entire life makeover i am simply choosing to improve upon the life I have - Make more stuff, write more, be kinder - to myself and others, Be healthier and live the life I am capable of. The best part of it all is that it only requires recognition of who I am and all of the love surrounding us.

I was going to write a list of do's and don'ts but I decided against it. I am almost too much in the mood to say yes to everything and anything I don't want, I will just shrug it off.

Where I work

This is me at the sample sale. I have on a major necklace - looking rather lady of the manor, with my hair in a bun.

I hate talking directly about my personal life.
1. because why should anyone care
2. I never know how much to reveal or not reveal
and
3. It's just how I am. I think that I come from that type of woman that was taught that if you talk too much about the good things that go on with you that means you are bragging and everyone will hate you...blah, blah.

However I am coming around to learning how to share parts of myself.

What I do for a living. I work for a jewelry designer. I do the business parts, meaning some of everything. The administrative stuff - everything from data entry, to shipping, to talking to department stores, to accounts receivable, marketing,.... you name it.

I also get to do cool things that are fun like design decisions - picking colors, giving advice on what is current, naming collections - finally named my first one a few months ago.

I also get to go to New York for the trade shows next month. This will be my first trip to New York and my first trade show, which in this business is where the action is. I am hoping to come away with some brand new deparment store accounts out of this. Fingers crossed.

I didn't go to school for this. I have a life long love of fashion, and pretty things but this job was a happy accident. They were looking for an admin person and it was the first job I saw. I applied and almost two years later I am still there. Everything is completely produced in San Francisco which is pretty amazing considering that most manufacturing is done overseas. We also make everything with pretty Swarovski crystal. Sometimes it's like being in a pretty jewel box. Other times it's like a factory, cold gray, with some sparkle thrown in.

This is where I have been volunteering my Saturday afternoons for about one year now. Rock Paper Scissors Collective.

It's a great community space where anyone can come and participate in the artistic process. There are sewing labs, craft classes, a gallery, retail store and zine library.

This month's show is by Patchwerk Press.
We work in collaboration with Patchwerk on Screenprint classes. They are also collectively run which I totally respect.

These dresses were handmade by a collective member from recycled materials.

We also have a retail store. The sequin headband was made by moi.

This picture to the right is of a lovely English girl that stopped by on our Friday opening.

LOVE her hat. She was entirely adorable.

I finally won something, a Maybelline makeup bag with makeup via Refinery 29. To be fair, this was an easy win. You had to say who your favorite Sci-Fi character re costuming. The top 50 - Yes, 50!- would win the prize. Of course I answered, the entire cast of Dune. That was an easy one. I counted the answers, only 54 people entered.

So this shows up today and besides the standard fare i have now discovered a lip-stain pen. Why did i not know about this before ? lipstick, combined with a pen ??? fantastic.

it's pretty well known that the fashion industry has tendencies towards , gently putting it, culture mining. It was pretty awesome to find out that Prada has done one better by actually going to the source and creating a line that not only reflects the global culture but is created by it.
Here's hoping this helps to fan the flames of a movement to respect the work of those that make it best.

While everyone was going minimalist, Raf Simmons at Jil Sander went maximalist and boy does it pay off. The way the skirts drape around the ankles and holds its shape. The length is hard to pull off when running through the streets, however with the right platforms you won't be dragging too hard on the ground.

35. Stupid Comedies - Step Brothers, Talladega Nights - pretty much any Will Farrell comedy. I like really dumb comedies - I jsut watched Hot Tub Time Machine. Thumbs Up!

Fendi - I LOVE this color. I would call it cornflower , I think. Really beautiful and glad to see so much of it.

Alberta Feretti - Romantic, Dreamy and really pretty all around. I would live in clothes like this if I could.

Krizia - Wasn't really into most of what they showed but this outfit is an exac t replica of one of my barbie's outfits when I was a kid. I would actually wear it.

Prada - wow different and I like all of the platform shoes and color blocking.

Versace - MMMM, gotta have some black and the color contrast print is very nice. Also look at the color of the shoes and the headscarf is a nice touch - win !!!

As I was walking randomly around after work taking pictures, I ran into the Altered Barbie show. I had read about it and tucked it away in my mental files so I was happy to take advantage of teh random encounter. This is where artists makeover dolls in the image that they feel is better suited to society as it is. Also to make them cooler. The very nice ladies hosting the event let me take some pictures:

Welcome to post 100! I'm still here. Anyone out there who is reading, I hope you enjoy what you see. My scattered online visual diary has been a real pleasure.

Since it is post 100 I am going to use this to list 100 of my favorite things :
These are not in particular order of enjoyment at all but here goes

1. Neil Young - Live at Massey Hall
I am listening to this now and it is probably my favorite live album of all time.

2. Cooking - I only have to cook for myself and since there is no pressure and it isn't a real chore it is very enjoyable. I also don't eat meat which has actually changed my diet and lended itself to way healthier eating. Today I am going to make one of my favorite meals, lentil stew. It will be made with garlic, tomatoes, onions and peppers. Delicious.

3. Days you don't have to do anything - hard to ease into. Your mind always says you gotta be doing something but I am trying now to ease into letting myself relax all around and enjoy - nothing!

4. riding my bike
5. salmon spinach burritos from the burrito shop
6. Peet's lattes

7. Led Zeppelin - I want to be cremated. I find the whole idea of burial and gravesites weird but if I had a gravestone it would say "Led Zeppelin Rules"

9. 70 degree weather
10. also rainy days, mostly when you get to stay in on them. But if you can't then...
11.rain boots
12. Peanut Butter cream sandwiches
13. Peanut Butter frozen yogurt

14. Peanut butter and jelly with vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two oatmeal raisin cookies. In a bout of decadence, i made these a few years ago. It was amazing. I obviously have not revisited it. It's too much. try it though. so good.

15. Free skincare samples - Sephora is the mecca for this. Ask them and they will give you anything in a little jar. I used to go with a friend and she would spend hours there just stocking up. I felt cheesy about it but now i get it and after spending $65 for a jar of moisturizer that gave me acne, i can see why you should try before you buy. Also sign up online for their e-mails and sometimes you get a free product. I just got a deluxe sample of the Clinique 3 step and Phiosophy's Hope In a Jar.

27. Finally realizing that you are what you do. I always wanted to sell vintage clothes. Now I do. I wanted to make and sell things that I design myself. Now I do.

I got my new camera. Not a fancy DSLR or anything. Juts a replacement for my lost point and shoot. Lazily of course I settled for the same camera brand. Pourquoi ?? I am too lazy to learn an entirely new camera type. As my old one was three years old, and ancient in electronic terms, I am so glad to get a new model. It's lighter, faster, crisper and just all around way way better.

So what was my first assignment ?? taking pix of myself in shop windows. And as I was having my latte in the local coffee shop I took the opportunity to browse the magazines. I always pick the expensive ones because I may as well get my money's worth and French Vogue qualifies.
It's 15.95$. Upon browsing the tome I discovered that it has much in common with American Vogue : advertising. The magazine is full of it. You are paying for someone else to ask you to buy stuff. Boring... Anywhoo. I decided to photograph and share some of my favorite parts of it to save us all some money.

this is what we should buy : Shearling, capes, lace tights, metallic pants,high heel boots and see through dresses.
This to me says Says - Superhero Hooker. I am with that.

aaah, androgony. I dig this. Men in the fashion spreads and he wears it just as well if not better than the ladies. He so reminds me of Bowie too. Not bad.

This is teh guy that Sister Wolf pointed out. He's still pretty. For a minute I couldn't tell whether he was a dude or a very flat chested girl.

Marion Cotillard almost makes me believe that French women really are better than us.

Hair inspiration, I am going to pull out my rollers and try this.

I did my first real, live vintage sale last night. It went very well. I sold some great stuff without much haggling and had some happy customers. everyone was happy.

I love the Oakland Art Murmur. It's two blocks from home, there is street food , music, art and other awesome vendors, myself included !!

Mad Genius

When I was growing up there were two women in fashion who I thought were awesome. (Besides my mom, that is. But that will be for another time )
Linda Evangelista - the chameleon with the cat eyes. Linda was a model though and that is too easy. The other was Isabella Blow. I would pour over Vogue magazine and spy this Mad Genius wearing a chain mail hood to some chi-chi party and think, she knows where it's at. This is a woman who is not afraid to be herself.
And so it remains. I may be the laziest fashion creator there is right now but I make hats too not nearly as cool as Philip Treacy's creations were but this woman was and is my inspiration. So long live the memory of Isabella Blow. May she continue to inspire future generations of misfit girls who just want to be themselves - a whole new gaggle of mad geniuses!

This is my messy lab aka my apartment. Sitting down to some work here. The Craftsman tool chest is a great help containing all of my tools and jewlery supplies. Organization is not my strong point.

The finished products - Sold the lion necklace to a friend. Got these pieces from a nice man on Valencia street. They are gorgeous. Three more I can sell and I get to keep one. Already anticipating missing them when they are gone.

More finished product. The green crystal necklace is gorgeous gorgeous. Sold that one last night at the Art walk event ( pictures to come soon ). the lady who bought it loved it. It's always pleasing to sell the things I make to people who really appreciate it.
I absolutely love these rings. I think I am keeping the blue one on the left. It's too beautiful. I can't part with it. The thing about stones is they are all unique. I tend to fall in love with a lot of them. I created the wire wrapping on the rings myself by just doing it and it has worked out well. I love when that happens. YAY!

I've developed a bit of a belt obsession. I don't have a count on it but it's seriously serious. Found a new way to wear them. Wrap it on the wrist. The perfect solution for this vintage YSL belt. ( lest anyone think Iam a spendthrift, this was 2 bucks. Not that Ineed to justify it but wasting large sums is not only beyond my reach but ridiculous. San Francisco is a thrifter's dream)

I don't need any more shoes. That is an understatement. I really really really do not need any more shoes. But I want these shoes. All leather grey Converse. First they are grey leather - but not only grey leather, grey leather Chuck Taylors and not just that but high tops too. They are beautiful.

This week was a massive week of shoes. Sales abound and I could not resist. above picture are Steve by Steve Madden Oxfords. They are a nice black shiny leather and will go with everything. Literally, everything. They remind me exactly of the shoes I used to wear in high school. I found these at Bloomingdales - 40% off sale shoes. Could not beat that, so they are now mine.

Aaah yes, Doc Martens. This is my first pair. I didn't need them. I have an amazing pair of combat boots already. However Urban Outfitters made me an offer I could not refuse, 50% off all sale shoes. I get a lot of my shoes from Urban Outfitters. They have killer shoe sales and when I say that I mean it. these were 20 bucks brand new, yup!!

This picture made me think of the Wizard of Oz - The house fell on the witch. Kitty, Teddy and Bunny are palying the Munchkins. Good job guys!

Seychelles, also bought at Urban Outfitters. I had my eye on them at full price and happened upon the last pair, in my size. also at the sale. These shoes are beautiful.

Pierre Hardy for Gap. Also the only pair left and in my size. Been wanting these for a long time as I have a thing for grey boots. They are perfection. The price literally made me want to weep. I have some kind of magical shoe manifesting powers.

These are actually from about a month ago. But so awesome I have to show them. 5 1/2 inch platform Sam Edelman's . Where am I wearing these ?? I don't know yet. But aren't they glorious ?

I'm a sellout. I finally gave in and got some pre-ripped pants. I grew up in the era when you had to rip your own pants. Actually purchasing them in a store was unheard of. Ripped pants were a mark of pants that are so beloved that they fall apart becasue you wear them so much, taht or you are too poor to afford new ones so what are you gonna do ?? I am still trying to get my head around the carefully arranged poverty look that seems to be afforded and coveted mostly by rich kids. My favorite store ( a magical, mystical, glorious, charity thrift that has turned me into a master hoarder ) got a stash of sample jeans from the Levi's factory. I cannot resist the Levi's, brand new and under ten bucks. Then I put them on and they hugged my butt and things so perfect I had to take them home with me. They also managed to look awesome with my high top Nike's, so yeah. I swear this will be the only new pre-ripped item I ever purchase. really, really..

I rarely post pictures of myself but here I am in one of my favorite dresses. It is the perfect little mini cocktail dress from the swinging 60's. It has sheer organza sleeves, crstal buttons on the cuffs and metallic embroidery at the waistline. Since I collect dresses and haven't gotten around to wearing them all - yes, admitted hoarder - I am never sure if one will make it out of my closet and into the world. However this little number cannot stay hidden. I am wearing it with BCBG girls suede platform heels ( will not use the term "booties" ) and a cute little bag I bought in the Mission from a girl selling things outside her car. I got the dress from Mission Thrift for about 20-30 bucks. Mission Thrift was my go to place about two years ago when I lived in SF. I recently went back and the vintage dress collection is so sadly non-existent. The market has really changed. I am glad I went on a major collecting spree when i did as the bargains are just not what they used to be. It seems that everyone has finally caught on to the superior quality that I knew was there all along.

Been a bit down lately, as it goes. Life is apparently up and down. A series of changes. So again need to pull myself out of it.

Steps :

1. Exercise

Went to the Y, $69 per month.

CON:You can't even try it out which sucks. PRO:It is 2 blocks from home which is nice. Lot's of classes, really big. Open from 5-10.

Decided to try 24hr Fitness

CON: It's 24hr fitness, blahh - although the equipment appears upgraded. Not too many classes.

PRO: 32$ per month with no contract, if it doesn't work I can quit easily. 5 blocks from home. open 24hrs. Gave me a week pass.

2. Meditation

Worked for me before, always works. There is definiteley something to this. Going to give it a go with trying sound meditations. I have a series of Theta waves cd's which has worked in the past.

3. Count Your Blessings

Double edged sword for me. I feel worse because I know that there are people who have real problems and I can sink into feeling sorry for myself for nothing. Then I feel like an ass for being that way. Self-Hate is not helpful here.

But I am grateful for all that I am. Need to build on this.

So that's what I have so far. just a bit of the doldrums.....

Saturday night People Party

Last night I debuted my jewelry and headbands at the People Party in Oakland. It was fun, fun, fun. Lots of great energy and invaluable feedback. I met some really wonderful people and danced to great music.
BTW - excuse my camera. It sucks bad.

My turquoise Lotus piece is in here. I ended up selling it. It was hard to part with that one. I brought it really just to show it but part of making things is the ability to let go of what you love. Imagine if I kept every piece I liked. I would actually end up keeping everything.

I've had these boots since 1992. yes that totally dates me, I am a grown lady. Anyway. I have actually not worn them since 1992 making them pretty mint. They are a really lush suede from Sam and Libby. For those of you who remember, yup they were great. For those who don't, it was Sam Edelman's original shoe company, way popular inthe 80's and 90's.
I was thinking about selling them, then I put them on this morning. I have noticed that most people wear thigh high boots with short skirts or over pants. That look doesn't work for me. When I put them on this morning I was wearing a skirt that went past my knees and I realized that this worked for me quite well. Thigh high boots with long skirts. The length of the boot actually creates a nice drape and the look of the skirt against the rich suede texture is divine.
I'm keeping them.

I am a Catholic girl. Once you are in that club you are stuck for life, one way or another. Yesterday was the first day of Lent and for Lent you give up something that you would normally do in order to cultivate discipline and to understand sacrifice. Last year I gave up eating meat, and I am happy to say that change has stuck with me. It was and is one of the best things I have ever done and I feel better , spiritually and physically, for it. This year I am quitting shopping. I am not allowing myself to buy any clothes, accessories, or shoes until after Easter. That may seem easy to some but I am a shopping expert. I tend to score unbelievable deals everywhere and since I rarely drink and don't indulge in drugs or promiscuity, it's my vice of choice.

The sadness really hit when this morning I got an e-mail with H&M's Sonia Rykiel collection. I forgot about this. I usually hate the mass market stores but Sonia for H&M is too good to pass up.Those platforms, I need them!! and the striped tights...STRIPED TIGHTS!!!! uggghhhh!!

This is going to be a very long 45 days

But seriously I made myself a romantic dinner of corn, cabbage and potato soup and watched " A Very Long Engagement " with Audrey Tatou, who is incredibly adorable. A very, very good movie. Thing I love most about the MOMA is that it is a concentrated source of inspiration. Whenever I go, I bring my camera and my notebook. Behind every corner lies a moment that I want to capture. Mostly what I see cannot be conveyed but only felt in the moment. I believe that the spirit of the artists and the message of what they were wishing to get across to us, their audience, is contained in these works. All we have to do is look, listen and mostly feel. SF MOMA - 75th anniversary

One of the best things I did last year, amongst many, was purchasing a membership at the SF MOMA. I spent many afternoons there sipping coffee, visiting exhibits ( Frida Kahlo, Richard Avedon, Robert Frank, William Kentridge, Georgia O'Keefe) and even participating in projects ( Jochen Gerz , I Want You and Thursday Beer Salon ).

This year the museum is celebrating 75 years of bringing Modern Art to San Francisco and the world. These are pictures from the member party on Friday.

okay so this is me and my horrible self-portraiture - I was at the Woodstock anniversary in the park in October . I didn't make it the whole way through. I had some excellent cookies and everything got intense - color, sound, i made a retreat. I am wearing a feathered headband I made. I was so excited about it because i got to live out my Indian princess fantasy just a little bit.

This leads me to one of my favorite blogs style like u . I LOVE this blog. It's a trip into the closets and homes of people some stylish, some are hmmm, but all are interesting. Christmas Fun

Everyone who knows me, knows that my favorite movie of all time is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Hands down.

I have an eternal Willy Wonka crush. Seriously. I imagine we would run the chocolate factory and hang out there all day cooking up new weirdness.

So when I saw that it was playing in the neighborhood and on the big screen, I jumped at the chance to see it.
It was not disappointing at all. The theater was packed and it was great that so many people were into it. Young and old.

I wore the cutest little dress. Oddly enough, I look like one of those little twin girls from the Shining. Kinda funny but also creepy....

Really though, my dress is extremely cute! 1950's vintage piece in cotton with pleats and these little hearts all over it.
This picture was taken in one of the women's lounges in the Paramount bathroom.
The bathrooms there are the absolute nicest. The theater is in pristine condition and it was built in the 1920's. Going there for any reason is an absolute treat.

And here is the tree in the lobby. All around I had a great Christmas.

You probably know David Byrne from The Talking Heads. If you don't then what rock have you been living under ? He is not only a freaking awesome musician and subversive genius but an excellent human being.

I discovered his book, The New Sins, this past summer. It is pure genius and truth "The new sins are what we often mistakenly consider virtues"

Basically what society tells us to be and how to be is simply whatever fits the norms. Anyone outside of this box is abnormal. Norms shift so also is "sin" mutable. Yes!! Yes!!

Target Pop-Up San Francisco

After work I headed over to the Target pop-up downtown with the intention of trying on and hopefully buying the sequin, skeleton dress from the Rodarte collection . When I got there I discovered that it was a window (as seen above) - bummer. It's hard for me to buy anything without trying it on. I NEED to know that I like it.

I ended up with this dress which was the other one I liked. After much debating I decided that I have plenty of sequins in my wardrobe right now. Too many to add another piece I wasn't ecstatic about. However there's always more room for black lace. It's really adorable on. I was worried it would be short but I actually like it that way. The top part is a bit ice-skaterish however it will be super cute paired with cashmere cardigans and I can easily transition it into spring.

The poor staff at the stand didn't seem to have their shit together at all. It was kinda sad because they weren't busy at all. First they couldn't find my size in the dress ( I took the 9 ) they said it skipped from 7-11. I wasn't hearing that , seriously does that make sense ?? The girls were sweet enough to go back and check where they found out indeed they do make a 9.

When I got up to to the register to pay it turned out they had mispriced the dress on the sign at $39.99 and charged me $5 more. I got it for the advertised price and they put it in a really cute bag which was nice. I filched a pen too, thanks Target!

anyway that is me in the picture above. I never post pictures of myself because really, why ?? I tried the dress on in the H&M dressing room while trying on the Sonia Rykiel underwear collection. I bought that piece of pink awesomeness as also seen above. It's way sexy. Actually all of the pieces in that collection are very hot. I am going back for the striped ones. I highly recommend it.

That is all for now. Shopping is freaking exhausting.

Today is the 40th anniversary of Altamont. What started out as a follow up to Woodstock was turned into a violent nightmarish scene.

If you have not seen it , and even if you have, watch Gimme Shelter. A well filmed documentary about the experience that ended a decade. The concert footage as well as the interviews are excellent.

Sesame Street recently turned 40. How time flies. If it weren't for Sesame Street a lot of kids wouldn't have learned so much about the importance of imagination, kindness, patience and embracing and understanding people who are different than us. It cannot be a coincidence that Woodstock and Sesame Street both happended in 1969.

I am oficially obsessed with jumpsuits, rompers, overalls, whatever you call them. The one pictured above ( image stolen from Style.com ) is perfect. It could be that it is the perfect garment and it plays to the eternal child in me that wants to sit on the floor with a box of crayons. I also have an obsession with ruffles, lace, patent leather mary-janes and white dresses - my best friends are a stuffed kitty, rabbit and teddy bear so this could be true. All that aside, it is truuly the perfect outfit. I will be constructing some for myself shortly out of cotton broadcloth and perhaps mens suiting fabric - also fucking pinstripes , YES!!

Yesterday I went to the Woodstock 40th anniversary concert in Golden Gate Park. It was a really beautiful sunny day, perfect weather. Not too hot, just gorgeous. The music was great - although confusing. A guy walked by me telling me the Doors were coming on. Unfortunately he was mistaken. There was no beyond the grave visit from The Lizard King, that would have been too awesome. Also everyone was a " this is __ and ___ from ________" like no whole bands, I know its been 40 years but either no one made it through or bands just don't stay together ( major props to The Rolling Stones for holding their shit together, it's a huge accomplishment). There was also Jefferson Starship which is way confusing. I have been grooving to White Rabbit lately and I was way excited thinking Grace Slick could be there throwing down some psychedelia but no, Jefferson Starship is not Jefferson Airplane. Basically it's Paul Kantner's band with some other chick singing vocals. Not to be confused with "We Built This City" Starship. It's all too much.

This brings me to the reason for my post - Hippie Luxe. I am really into vintage clothes, especially the 1950's and early 1960's. My collections is really great lately however I have been thinking about the late 60's and early 70's bohemian vibe and how I can incorporate more of that into my wardrobe. I was big on the whole hippie skirt, flowing dress thing about 10 years ago and moved away from it towards a more classic streamlined look. I was afraid it was all too flaky looking. With age however can come more confidence and the ability to blend your wardrobe seamlessly.

This is - Out Of The Closet.

It is the absolutely best thrift store I have EVER been to. Being that, I am not going to publish the exact location I frequent- Seriously thrifting Nirvana. That should not be spoiled. There are many locations in The Bay Area and Southern California and there couldn't be a better cause than AIDS Healthcare and prevention. It is seriously underfunded and always has been. AIDS and HIV affect everyone, not just the gay community. It is a very preventable and fatal disease and by shopping for great clothes at extremely low prices and donating those you don't need, you can help do your part. As far as charities go , this one actually makes sure that the largest proportion of funds possible actually go to the cause. Unfortunately many charity shops have so much overhead and administrative expense that very little ends up in the hands of those who need it most.

This dress is gorgeous. The only thing that would make it better would be if it were pants that were this fluid and in this shape. I may have to take that idea and run with it....

anyway, white dresses are what Summer and Spring are all about. There seems to be a freshness and innocence to the whole thing. White symbolizing purity. I had a whole thing mentally going in the direction of wearing all black this winter. Like I wanted to just be dark and mysterious ( or just ridiculous ) but suddenly I realized i want to wear white this winter. I just don't feel so dark and heavy . I am going for it white cottons, cream lace, girly ruffles, chiffon, everything that signifies Springtime. So oficially I will be skipping Winter in my mind this year.... YEAH!!!

This dress is a remake. It was part of a sustainable fashion benefit. The best part about remade dresses is that they are usually one of a kind either in design or fabric and recycled. Vintage fabric is really some of the best .

not the best pic as this is just the top ut the funnel neck is pretty amazing. Made of my favorite fabric - wool. Wool is actually quite comfortable and extremely versatile, especially the Italian variety. It has gotten a bad rap from being associated with itchy sweaters from childhood.
